Donald Simrock is an American makeup artist and art director, distinguished for powerful editorial makeup and an eye that modernizes iconic imagery. It is his unique vision that has given him the opportunity to work with celebrity clients including Gaga, Madonna, Britney Spears, and Kim Kardashian.
Simrock was born in Longmont, Colorado. He gained his first work experience in the unconventional settings of nightclubs in both New York and Europe. Shortly thereafter, he accepted a very lengthy apprenticeship under Pat McGrath working on hundreds of fashion shows in Paris, Rome, and NYC, before finally moving out on his own.
In addition to a stint as beauty editor at Flaunt Magazine, Donald Simrock’s bold editorial work has been featured in publications such as Rolling Stone, Interview, Harper’s Bazaar, and Vogue.
In 2008, it was Simrock that helped create Lady Gaga’s infamous and iconic “Just Dance” looks, forever imprinting a lighting bolt eyed Gaga into our memories.
His work has been seen in numerous music videos and earned him a nomination for best makeup at the MTV Video Music Awards.
Simrock previously served as brand ambassador and make-up director for Lakmé cosmetics, the largest cosmetics brand in India.
His wide artistic range has led him to collaborate with renowned directors and photographers alike, from Hype Williams to David LaChapelle.
